The mission of the TMKF is two-fold:

* We are committed to eliminating cancers affecting women by supporting top medical scientists who are searching for a cure for breast, uterine, cervical and ovarian cancers.

* We are committed to ending the epidemic of domestic violence by providing grants to women's shelters and supporting community outreach programs.

Since the Foundation began in 1996, it has granted over $50 million dollars to organizations fighting cancer and violence against women.

“What we are and what we become may be inspired by others, but the accomplished fact is simply how we see ourselves, and what we, as individuals, make of this opportunity called life.” Dalene White

The Mary Kay family has lost a treasure, our dear Dalene, who passed away on Feb. 25, 2015.

The position of Independent National Sales Director was born in 1971, when Mary Kay Ash and Richard Rogers created a level of achievement to represent the pinnacle of success and leadership in the Mary Kay independent sales force. Dalene was one of the first two women to achieve this esteemed leadership status, becoming the role model for Mary Kay’s dream Company. Today, hundreds of women around the globe have followed in her footsteps to become Mary Kay legacy leaders and the keepers of the dream.

Coming from Fort Worth, Texas, and a career of teaching special needs children, Dalene became the very first Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant on Sept. 14, 1963, one day after the Company opened its doors. She also signed her first team member that same day. She was one of the first Independent Sales Directors and the very first Independent Senior Sales Director. Dalene went on to become the first Queen of Personal Sales and Queen of Sharing at the Company’s first Seminar in 1964. She debuted as a Mary Kay Independent National Sales Director in 1971. Earning every top 10 National Sales Director trip and becoming a member of the Millionaires Club, Dalene was also in the prestigious Inner Circle of National Sales Directors seven times, and was the No. 1 ranking Mary Kay Independent National Sales Director in 1995, before debuting as an Elite Executive National Sales Director Emeritus in 1996.

Dalene often said that the most rewarding part of her Mary Kay career were the great people who became so important to her, personally and professionally. Among them are these Independent National Sales Directors who were first-line to Dalene and debuted out of her Area: Ila Burgardt, the late Dee Denison, Abbie Webster, LaQueta McCollum-Fisher, Ann Sullivan, and Mickey Ivey.

Dalene was a close business partner and friend to Mary Kay Ash, and was known for her loyalty. Before Mary Kay passed away, Dalene promised that she would do her part to continue Mary Kay’s personal dream to live and teach the Mary Kay business the way her longtime mentor and friend originally created it. And she did, for as long as she was able. In a tribute to Dalene and others like her in 1996, Mary Kay Ash said, “From our earliest beginning, how blessed we have been to have wonderful leaders who have truly made an art of living first for others and of sharing from their hearts. They mean so much more than words could ever say.”

Dalene credited her family with playing an essential part in her Mary Kay success. Her late husband, Joe, and she were parents to daughters, Janet and Sherry, and son, Damon, who grew to appreciate and understand the vital life skills of goal-setting, work, and rewards, which were a central part of their Mary Kay home. Dalene is survived by her children, as well as seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Reflecting on her own journey, Dalene said,

"We’ve all come a long way together. Most exciting is that each day, month, and year, we embark together on yet another journey toward new goals and dreams, knowing that all we have learned and accomplished has only been preparation for greater things to come."

Dalene will always be a part of our Mary Kay family and will remain in our hearts, as we continue the journey toward those greater things. Rest in peace, beloved friend.

A private family service will be held for Dalene on Sunday, March 1, 2015, in Leakey, Texas. There will be no public memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent in Dalene’s honor to The Mary Kay Foundation, specifically toward ending domestic violence, a cause she was passionate about.
