The mission of the TMKF is two-fold:

* We are committed to eliminating cancers affecting women by supporting top medical scientists who are searching for a cure for breast, uterine, cervical and ovarian cancers.

* We are committed to ending the epidemic of domestic violence by providing grants to women's shelters and supporting community outreach programs.

Since the Foundation began in 1996, it has granted $35 million dollars to organizations fighting cancer and violence against women.

In Loving Memory of Darlene

All of us at The Mary Kay Foundation are grieving the loss of Darlene to cancer on September 17, 2010.

In her valiant fight, Darlene was an inspiration to many as she bravely rose to the challenge. She surprised us all when she was able to attend Seminar 2010 and spoke boldly from the stage to encourage all those who were present. She said, "We are not born winners or losers; we are born choosers." She encouraged members of the sales force to make wise choices.

Truly she believed in the Mary Kay opportunity and chose from day one to give her all. Her Mary Kay career began in 1980, and she actively pursued the Mary Kay dream until her passing. She left an indelible impression on everyone she met, and Independent Beauty Consultants, Independent Sales Directors and National Sales Directors in her downline knew she was genuine and that she sincerely cared about them and did all she could to help them to become successful.

Darlene shared her wisdom and alluded to her battle with cancer in her Seminar speech, when she said, "It is not what happens to you, but it's how you handle it." She handled her illness with determination and grace and extended her life expectancy to the amazement of her physicians.

Darlene was a friend to The Mary Kay Foundation, and we will miss her greatly. Our hearts go out to her husband Denny and her children Marc and Beth.

Darlene Berggren was the mother of my close friend and MK recruiter, Beth Berggren. I had the honor of meeting Darlene and experiencing her kindness and genuine personality. She was a beautiful woman, inside and out and I am so amazed by how she lived her life with energy, enthusiasm and integrity and how she inspired so many women to dream big!
We will always love and miss you Darlene!
sincerely,
Leslie Ann David

Dear Beth (and family)
Oh Beth, I have been so out of touch i had no idea that she had passed, and I also had figured, since she was your magical Mother, she was still "flying".. I am sorry I couldn't be there for you, but I know you and I know that you are a strong amazing woman~ I leave not a prayer for your Mom, but a thanks.
Thank you Darlene for raising such and amazing, magical, thoughtful, sweet, fun daughter~ I wouldn't be who I am without her, and I know she has one more angel shining down on her~
My heart goes out to you and your family~
Sincerely,
~Sarah A. Meider

I never met Darlene personally but I was very honored when she responded to an email I had sent as a new consultant. She struck me as a woman who didn't condone excuses. She encouraged me to find my way around problems.

Darlene was one of my first teachers at my new consultant training class. I will always remember her wisdom, sparkling eyes and beautiful smile. She was always available to answer questions and always greeted everyone within 20 feet of her.
My heart breaks and my eyes fill with tears over the loss of this most wonderful woman. She will live in our hearts forever.

Darlene was like an angel at seminar saying good-bye to the people in the company that touched her heart. She was soft spoken , yet was heard by all. She was gentle and yet direct. Darlene was Mary Kay to those of us who never knew Mary Kay Ash....................

Dear Bergreen Family,
Although I have not have the honor of knowing Darlene for long, she was my NSD that inspired me to become all I could be in this business. I have great leaders in my area because of Darlene. Susan Hohlman is my role model and I know that without the help of Darlene I would not have had the awe inspiring woman she is today as a great leader.
Thank you for letting me be apart of your mother, wifes, and families dreams.

I was so saddened to learn of Darlene's passing. She was truly a Mary Kay angel! Now she will take her place alongside Mary Kay and other "angels" at the right hand of God.
Blessings to her family.
