October 4 - Double Trouble - The plan is to get up early and walk Ziva a mile before I have to get to my quilt guild meeting...
October 3 - Day off
October 1 & 2 - Race Begins! - Ziva and I only made 1/2 of our mile, due to circumstances beyond my control. I made it up on Oct. 2nd by walking 1 hour and a half with my friend Jackie on a local grade school's track. The morning was colder than it has been, but we warmed up pretty quickly once we got started. Walking on the little 4-lane track made me think of all the 12-lane tracks I ran in High School!
Jackie and I had a lovely audience there. A dozen (maybe twenty?) geese were milling about the track and gathering together in the grassy middle. They pretended not to watch us.
Update September 21, 2021 - Jaw surgery today, so training will not resume until 9/28.
September 18, 2021 - Sinus infection has gotten me down the past few days. Ziva and I walked a couple of short walks, but not long enough to mention. Hubby will take her today for me as well so I can rest more and get some things done around the house. So far this journey has not been exciting, but it is sure to get more lively the closer it gets to October!
September 12, 2021 - Team Ziva did a mile this morning! At the very end of Dalmatia, my pedometer clocked us at 0.5 miles, so when we got home it read "1.0" - Yeah! Now we have Ziva's favorite route mapped out. I want to route out a less steep one, staying on Sultana Road. Our street is fairly flat compared to most, but there is the occaisional up and down hills to keep things interesting.
September 11: Asthma still really bothering me. I downloaded the RaceJoy app that the MK5K is using to track participants. Our progress will be accessible to our friends and family to track us live, during race days and Training days. When we train I will turn on the tracking feature. My Tracking ID is 1213.
You can download RaceJoy for free from the App Store (if you are into such things) and become a supporter of Team Ziva and send us "Cheers" or messages. RaceJoy is absolutely optional and is not required to support me or the team.
September 10: The storm last night kept Ziva in a panic and I stayed up with her so hubby could get some sleep. She and I were way too wiped out to train, and the humidity was making my asthma crazy.
September 9: Team Ziva is born! We went earlier and Ziva literally drug me over the street and up Dalmatia. There was some sun on the road, but we could handle it. We got a really good workout, and although we needed to turn around at the summit, OK, I needed to not go uphill anymore. We were so bummed out that my Pedometer only registered 0.6 again. If we make the whole street the next time, I am wishing that to be 1 mile. Then we know how far we need to go.
Fun Fact: Bears do poop in the woods, but they pee in the middle of the street. Ziva is facinated and must sniff every spot. The spot she is sniffing is HUGE - yikes!
September 8: Our walk went wonderfully this morning! I was hurting from scrubbing floors and shower yesterday, but Ziva actually walked at my slow pace as if she knew how I felt. It was almost spooky, but the most fun I have had on our walks in a long time. Tomorrow will be a true test - Ha!
We logged in 0.6 miles (over half a mile!). If I can get my butt out of bed before it gets hot, we can walk uphill on Dalmatia in the shade and take advantage of photo ops. Neither of us felt like posing for pix after our training this morning!
In October, I (and Ziva*) are participating in the 2021 Virtual MK5K® My Way virtual event in support of a great organization - Mary Kay Ash Foundation. The Mary Kay Ash Foundation supports two very important causes, cancers that affect women and violence against women.
These are important causes to me and I hope you will help by sponsoring me. You can click on the "Donate Now" button to make an online donation now. Or better yet, why don't you join me at the event - you can register by clicking on the "Join My Team!" button. You do not have to be an MK consultant to join our team.
* Ziva is my 7 year old Bernese Mountian Dog who talked me into signing us up. We will begin training Labor Day weekend. The plan is to make a "diary" of our adventures.
Click on "About" in the top navigation to learn more about the event and how you can get involved.
Thanks and I'll keep you posted of my progress.
