The mission of the TMKF is two-fold:

* We are committed to eliminating cancers affecting women by supporting top medical scientists who are searching for a cure for breast, uterine, cervical and ovarian cancers.

* We are committed to ending the epidemic of domestic violence by providing grants to women's shelters and supporting community outreach programs.

Since the Foundation began in 1996, it has granted over $50 million dollars to organizations fighting cancer and violence against women.

Independent Senior National Sales Director Barbara Johnson, who debuted as a new NSD in July 2014 out of the Pamela Waldrop Shaw Area, passed peacefully from this life into the next on Saturday, April 11, 2015.

A small-town girl from Clay, Kentucky, whose father passed away when she was only five years old, Barbara says she was a little “customer liaison” for her mother, who worked in the local grocery store meat market. Not wanting to leave her little daughter, Barbara, with a sitter every day after school, her mother gave her the job of standing at the end of the meat counter to smile and greet everyone who came by. Little did she know that those formative years were the fertile ground in which Barbara’s communication skills and people skills would be sown and cultivated, preparing her for her Mary Kay journey.

She and her husband, Ken, were married for many years and raised one daughter, Jennifer, a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant. Jennifer is married to Jay McChord, and they are raising Barbara’s pride and joy - grandson, Davis and granddaughter, Riley.

What Barbara said she loved most about her Mary Kay business was pouring into other people. She felt as if she was on “a personal mission to make sure women understand that, no matter how old or young they are, they have so much value to give.” What Barbara loved to do was to point women toward their strengths, which is what made her the powerful leader and woman she was and what we so fondly remember and admire. And so, the Mary Kay story continues. Lessons are learned, teachers are born and the legacy is passed on. That’s the Mary Kay way.
